Cornelia Garza has been in social services for 18 years in the states of Illinois, Florida and Texas. She is the Faith Based Program Specialist for the Department of Family and Protective Services Region 11. She helps families, churches and organizations understand each other’s systems and how to work more effectively on behalf of children and families in the child welfare system.
She received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University. Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. Her Master of Arts in Latin American and Latino Studies at the University of South Florida.
She has presented throughout the region on how state organizations and the faith community must partner together to ensure children’s success. She has traveled and trained various state staff on how to engage and partner with the faith community.
To date DFPS has close to 250 faith partners region wide helping to meet the needs of children and families in crisis. Her prayer is to have every faith partner to meet the needs of abused/neglected children in some capacity and that one day we will have waiting families and not children.
